Hal Calhoun

Managing Partner, Menlo Ventures Hal joined Menlo Ventures in 2000. Prior to Menlo Ventures, he served as Senior Vice President of Product Marketing for ONI Systems, a leading optical networking equipment manufacturer. Previously, he held various market development positions in the Optical Networks division of Nortel Networks and was Senior Manager of Broadband Transport Planning at Fujitsu Network Communications. At Menlo, Hal focuses on early-stage communications companies. His recent investments and board seats include Movaz Networks, Parama Networks, S2io Technologies and Santur.

Hal is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology (B.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering), where his graduate work focused on photonic materials, devices and systems.


Brian J. Girvan

Brian joined Ascent in August 2003 as a Partner and as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. Brian has over 25 years of finance experience in the financial services industry including most recently as COO and CFO of Argo Global Capital, a $400 million venture capital firm in Wakefield, MA. Brian has previously worked as a senior executive in several roles at Fidelity Investments including as a Senior Vice President and CFO of their retail division, as CFO of their intermediary-based mutual funds division and as a Senior Vice President and Division Executive of their institutional brokerage division. Prior to that, Brian was a Senior Vice President, CFO and Treasurer of Affiliated Managers Group, a publicly held investment management firm with over $70 billion in managed assets and a Senior Vice President and CFO of PIMCO Advisors, a publicly held investment management firm with over $100 billion in managed assets.


Zenas Hutcheson

Zenas Hutcheson, Managing General Partner at St. Paul Venture Capital, thrives on helping early-stage, leading-edge communications companies bring their software and service platforms to market. With a career-long passion for technology investments, Zenas's current focus is on companies in the OSS and Security sectors.

In addition to domain expertise in next generation networks, Zenas brings extensive operating experience to the companies he supports. During his career, Zenas has been either a CEO, management advisor, or board member of approximately 35 technology companies, including CAECO, Concord Data Systems, Natural Microsystems, Multilink, PictureTel, Teleos, and Vivo Software.

Hutcheson, who joined St. Paul in March 1998, currently sits on the boards of Aravox Technologies, Bluesocket, Crescent Networks, Granite Systems, Octave Communications and Sistina Software, among other companies.


Mads Lillelund

Mr. Lillelund brings extensive senior management and telecom infrastructure experience to Bluesocket. Most recently, Mr. Lillelund was President & CEO of manufacturer Carlo Gavazzi Computing Solutions (CGCS). Mr. Lillelund managed the CGCS businesses of electronic packaging and embedding computing; Aurora Technologies; and Channel Access where he restructured the operations to achieve profitability. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Services at Enterasys Networks, where he was responsible for generating over $400M in annual revenue primarily through distributors and resellers. From 1991 to 2001, Mr. Lillelund held several key positions at Lucent Technologies and AT&T in Belgium, Ireland and the United States. In the early years, he successfully opened the Russian and Eastern European markets while later becoming the Managing Director and Regional Vice President of Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) for Lucent Technologies' Global Commercial Markets. As Managing Director he established the headquarters in Dublin, Ireland where he was responsible for Sales, Marketing and Operations in 22 countries generating revenues in excess of $300M.

Mr. Lillelund holds a BBA Degree from Baylor University and an MBA Degree from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird).
