Touro College Looks to Bluesocket for High-Performance WLAN Solution to Manage Multi-Vendor Wireless Network

Bluesocket Solution Expands Wireless Service throughout Manhattan, NY Campus Buildings and Provides Reliable Network Access to 11,500 Students, Faculty and Staff.

Burlington, Mass. – September 16, 2009 – Bluesocket, Inc., (www.bluesocket.com), the leader in trusted wireless access and enterprise mobility, today announced that Touro College, with 17,500 students at more than 30 locations in New York, California, Florida, Nevada, Jerusalem, Moscow, Berlin and Paris, has selected Bluesocket to bring wireless access to its New York City campuses.

The initial implementation at Touro College covers nine academic and administrative buildings located in Manhattan, NY, and includes the college headquarters. The 10,000 students and 1,500 faculty and staff at these locations now have secure and reliable wireless access provided by more than 100 BluesSecureTM 1500 Series Access Points running on six high-performance BlueSecure Controllers.

In search of a reliable solution, Touro College looked to John Antimisiaris, Vice President and CTO at Lincoln Computer Services for guidance in selecting a wireless solution. Relying on his expertise as a systems integrator, Antimisiaris assessed the existing network and platforms and recommend adding Bluesocket products to create a functional managed wireless solution. “We were familiar with the Bluesocket products and felt confident in recommending the BlueSecureTM Controllers to satisfy the College’s need to centrally manage existing third-party Access Points as well as increase coverage by adding BlueSecureTM Access Points,” says Antimisiaris.

Prior to the Bluesocket implementation Touro College had limited wireless access through another vendor’s Access Points. The high concentration of radio frequency signals surrounding the busy Manhattan locations resulted in frequent lost signals that other vendors could not overcome.

Bluesocket provided Touro IT Administrators with a BlueSecureTM Controller and Access Points to test at the main campus. Touro was impressed with how the Bluesocket products performed versus hardware from leading competitors. “The Bluesocket wireless solution worked from the moment we plugged it in,” says Robert Kariyev, Data Communications Manager at Touro College. “Bluesocket’s WLAN products are superior to any other we looked at. The performance issues we were experiencing with other vendor’s equipment are non-existent with Bluesocket.”

The BlueViewTM Management System gives Touro’s IT administrators simplified WLAN management with centralized configuration and maintenance, policy-management, and monitoring capabilities for the BlueSecureTM Controllers and Access Points. “Our Manhattan schools are spread across multiple locations of varying sizes. The BlueSecureTM Controllers have the flexibility and strength we need to stay efficient. Just placing Access Points in the smaller locations works beautifully and we do not need Controllers in every building, maximizing our investment,” says Mark Shor, CIO at Touro College.

Touro College continues to build out their Bluesocket wireless infrastructure as Bluesocket introduces new, cutting-edge products. Most recently they added five BlueProtectTM Client Scanning licenses for increased endpoint security. BlueProtectTM is an integrated element in all BlueSecureTM wireless Controllers and provides IT departments with the assurance that only policy-compliant devices connect to their wireless network.

"Bluesocket's wireless technology can be easily deployed in some of the most challenging environments,” says Mads Lillelund, chief executive officer at Bluesocket. “The solution implemented at Touro College showcases the suite of products Bluesocket offers and the great ROI and performance improvements that can be achieved. We look forward to working with Touro to build out their wireless network across the globe."

Touro will expand the Bluesocket wireless solution to two additional buildings later this year and plans to standardize on the Bluesocket products across all 30 domestic and international locations in the next few years. They are currently testing the 802.11n 1800 series Access Points and will continue to look to Bluesocket to bring them the most current wireless technology.
